Wood and Ice Sculptors in Enumclaw, Washington

Welcome to our blog!

Greetings from Ice Alaska 2009 in Fairbanks.

This year Joaquin and Donna will carve together in the single block competition. We have prepared and practiced since Christmas. We don't want to ruin the surprise with details so subscribe to our blog and watch and see our sculpture evolve.

Starting March 1st, Raul Quezada and Jake Lucas will join us for the multi-block competition. We'll be sculpting a piece entitled 'Alaskan Tradition.' This will be Raul and Jake's first time in Alaska and first time carving big ice.

You can see some of our portfolio pictures in the slideshow on the left of the page; double click on the show to see larger images.

We hope you enjoy the blog and would love to read your comments!

Preparations

As JQ and I are prepareing to leave tomorrow morning, I am greatful that we will have a loved and trustworthy house sitter to watch over our home and carving yard. The dogs have been a bit edgy sensing that something is different. We have gathered our tools and sent the saws ahead. Stihl Northwest was so kind to barge them up to Alaska for us where they are being held by the saw shop in Fairbanks. We are excited to be going, to be facing this challenge, and to be creating pieces of art that will bring joy to ourselves and to others. I hope it stays cold this year, but not too cold!!! Last year it got so warm that the ice was damaged and the design of the scuptures had to be changed. The forcast is for perfect weather with highs around 25F and lows about -10F. Good thing we bought those polar fleece Long Johns!
